Cardiac Rehabilitation Program Certification

Purpose: This procedure tells you how to certify a cardiac rehabilitation program in North Carolina. Pursuant to North Carolina General Statute 131E-169 (PDF, 10 KB), the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services has rulemaking authority for this program. Rules in Title 10A of the N.C. Administrative Code (10A NCAC 14F, PDF, 46 KB) apply.

Procedures:

  1. Obtain a certificate of need, if necessary: Certificate of Need
    1. If proposing to develop a cardiac rehabilitation program, the applicant first contacts the CON to obtain a determination of whether the proposal requires a certificate of need.
    2. CON makes its determination based on the proposed capital expenditure for the project. A copy of the determination is sent to the Acute and Home Care Licensure and Certification Section.
  2. Obtain a certificate: Acute and Home Care Licensure and Certification Section
    1. The applicant contacts the section for an application.
    2. Upon receipt of a completed application and applicable fees (G.S. 131E-167 PDF, 11 KB), the section schedules an on-site inspection.
    3. If the application and inspection are acceptable, a certificate is issued.
