As a result of passage of House Bill 964 during the 2008 legislative session, effective January 1, 2010, any agency providing in-home companion, sitter, and respite care services or homemaker services provided in combination with in-home companion, sitter, respite, or other home care services, will be required to obtain a home care agency license. The Division of Health Service Regulation anticipates many of these agencies will be contacting the Division as they seek to obtain home care licenses and be in compliance with state law.
Therefore, in order to make certain these agencies achieve compliance with state law as expeditiously as possible, the division will be giving first priority to agencies who were already providing companion/sitter services prior to the effective date of the law or January 1, 2010.
Thank you very much for your understanding and consideration.
